i thought i was done with the website until i saw this letter from america online. it's funny, what they deem "inappropriate," the mere mention of this website. let's see...
america online has been notified of a member directory profile created by one of the screen names on your account which violates aol's terms of service (tos). a written warning has been entered on your account record along with the information below.
on 05/20/2001 9:16:06 am eastern, the cdbmc1974 screen name created/edited a profile that contained the following inappropriate content:
"unacceptable profile: hobbies: writing my controversial, eye-opening, liberal-bashing website - www.anti-gay.com
quote: understand minorities' agendas, go to www.anti-gay.com"
when a member targets another to cause distress, embarrassment, unwanted attention or other discomfort, this is harassment. (distress, embarrassment, unwanted attention or other discomfort?! harassment?!) we dont allow harassment and may suspend or terminate a member who harasses others. (who, pretel, did i harrass in an advertisement fit for talk radio?) you may have a disagreement with someone's point of view -- we encourage lively discussion in chat rooms and on message boards -- but personal attacks are not allowed. (yeah, they're really encouraging lively discussion here - just tell me what gives you the right to call it a "personal attack") also prohibited are attacks based on a person's race, national origin, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other identification. (i was gonna quit writing here, thinking they were justified in their actions, thinking that my cyber-speech was indeed documented as illegal, but keep reading) if you have a disagreement with someone's point of view, stick to the subject, dont focus on the person. (i do have a disagreement with someone's point of view, i did stick to the subject, and i did not single any person out)
aol has deleted this profile from the member directory. feel free to create a new profile that does not include this kind of objectionable content.
when creating an aol account, all members agree to abide by america online's tos. these guidelines prohibit the use of vulgar or sexually oriented language, sexually explicit images, harassment, discussion of illegal activities, and/or other activities that may impair the enjoyment of our members.
